Pinterest Worthy?

I think I have something to post to Pinterest: the biggest headboard in the world complete with a custom bed frame!

Ok, maybe it isn't the biggest, but it's probably pretty close. The only thing that prevented us from making it bigger, is that we wanted it to fit through the doors. And the bed...oh the bed! My husband can't stop commenting on how sturdy it is. haha.

The best part about this whole project is it only cost $350. That is for the headboard and the bed frame. The bedding we got for over 60% off and it feels good! We had to make 5 trips to Home Depot, 4 trips to JoAnn's (using about 10 coupons), and it took us most of a 3 day weekend, but it's finished!

I love making my own stuff. It is incredibly frustrating, hard, fraught with annoying problems, but so tremendously satisfying. Not to mention, you can make it look exactly how you want it to. AND it's usually cheaper...if you're patient and take a thousand trips to the store so you can use a hundred coupons.

I LOVE our new bedroom.

It took a lot of wood to put the bed frame together.

Building the reeeealy big head board. This would have been really difficult if we didn't have a staple gun to attach to our air compressor. Now that is a cool toy!

This side table used to be yellow. Canary yellow. Ick. We decided to strip it, stain it, and varnish it. Then we couldn't find hardware that was wide enough to replace the old rusty hardware (and we didn't feel like filling the holes). So, we painted them teal and aged them a little. I'm still not sure I love the teal hardware on the dark furniture...

The finished product. Now we just need to paint the wall. Purple really doesn't look very good with the teal...

This is a seriously comfy bed. I can't wait to finish decorating the rest of the room!
