Faux Brick by Faux Brick

One of the great eye sores of my new house is the fireplace. It screams "1980's house"...or "hey, I have absolutely no taste and therefore I painted my brick fireplace white." It was bad enough, I seriously considered dropping a pretty penny to have someone plaster over it and make it look new. Luckily for my pocketbook, our cabinet refinisher lady gave me the greatest idea EVER. She said, why don't you paint it? I kind of snorted thinking, "that's what I hate about the thing." Anyway, she gave me a list of instructions for how to faux paint my fireplace. Though I was skeptical for a time, seriously doubting my ability to do such a thing, I decided that $50 was WAY better than $500. So, here is what my $50 and ever so creative mind ended up with.

What type of paint did you use and was it matte etc? Plus, can you share the colors you used? Love them! Great job!!!

Hi Melissa. It was really pretty easy. I just used regular latex paint (any shine level is ok) that I got from the hardware store in pint size. You mix the latex paint with Valspar translucent color glaze in about a 2:1 ratio (2 parts paint, 1 part glaze). You can change the ratio based on how "see through" you want it. I used 5 different paint colors, but I can't remember the names of them. I mixed all the colors in separate containers, then applied with a sponging type method (you can use a sponge or wadded up cheese cloth). The more random, the better!
